Italy’s outspoken Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has blamed elements of the radical left in the country after he received an envelope containing a bullet in the latest of a series of death threats against the nationalist leader.
The leader addressed to the League Party leader as “Minister Duce Matteo Salvini” was discovered in a Post Office in Sesto Fiorentino. The name is a reference to fascist leadering during World War Two Benito Mussolini who was known as “Il Duce” or the Duke, in English.
In reaction to the latest threat an unphased Salvini said that he has received over 100 threats of violence and death since he took office in March 2018.
“Evidently the words of hatred of certain leftists convince certain sick minds, but they do not frighten me,” Salvini said.
The defiant patriot then added.
“Indeed, they give me even more strength and desire to fight criminals of all kinds.”
Violent leftists and communists have a history of violence in Italy with the Red Brigade terror organisation having assassinated Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro in 1978 after they kidnapped him.
Meanwhile, the ANPI/National Association of the Italian Partisans have called for protests and civil disobedience in reaction to Salvini’s and his governments opposition to open borders and population replacement.
