Born Katherine Patricia Routledge on February 17, 1929, in Birkenhead, Cheshire, she began her career on the London stage in 1954, earning acclaim as a versatile performer in theatre, including Broadway triumphs like a Tony Award for *Darling of the Day* in 1968. Routledge’s television stardom peaked with *Keeping Up Appearances* (1990–1995), where her portrayal of the snobbish social climber—insisting her surname be pronounced “Bouquet”—captivated millions and garnered BAFTA nominations. She later starred as detective Hetty Wainthropp and appeared in Alan Bennett’s *Talking Heads*.

Honored with a damehood in 2017 for services to theater and charity, Routledge never married or had children, dedicating her life to acting. Tributes poured in, celebrating her comedic genius and enduring legacy. She will be dearly missed by fans worldwide.
