Derry and Strabane District Council have made a decision yesterday evening that will be of a major historical measure.
They’ve decided to change the official name of Londonderry to Derry.
The controversial decision has been met with mixed reports. Unionists have claimed it’s “sectarian” and “disgusting”, but the decision has been welcomed by the SDLP, Sinn Fein and Independent Councillors.
The council, which was made in the Guildhall, will now write to Environment Minister Mark H Durkan of the SDLP, who is from the city himself, on how to go about the change.
