The decision comes after Fury’s promoter Frank Warren wrote to the WBC board calling for a rematch after questioning the result of their first fight.
It comes after Wilder’s devastating knockout of Dominic Breazeale last week.
In a statement, the WBC approved the fight saying: “The World Boxing Council conducted a voting through the Board of Governors.”
“It resulted in a unanimous agreement to sanction a direct rematch between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.”
“The WBC is happy to confirm that a direct rematch has been approved and will create in a ruling which will also consider the mandatory status of the division.”
