A chance to make history: Katie Taylor given rapturous reception ahead of undisputed title fight




Katie Taylor has comfortably made weight ahead of her undisputed title fight with Delfine Persoon.

Taylor who was given an overwhelming reception as fans cheered when she took to the scales ahead of the biggest night of her career in Madison Square Garden.

The Bray native who has previously stated that she is looking forward to the challenge came in at 134.6 pounds.

Meanwhile Persoon who is also looking to make history came in 130.6 pounds well under the 135lbs limit.

Taylor who has praised her opponent in the lead up to the fight, told Sky Sports earlier this week that she is looking to create history in arguably her thoughest fight to date.

The WBA, IBF and WBO champion, told the broadcaster that victory tonight would be the pinnacle of her career and she had always dreamed of having fight of such magnitude.

Taylor’s potentially history making fight comes as British heavyweight Anthony Jousha defends his title against Andy Ruiz Junior.

All the action on a stacked undercard is expected to get underway at 10pm tonight, on Sky Sports Box Office.
