According to recent data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), Irish citizens earn almost €90 more per week on average than non-Irish nationals, reports Breaking News.
The CSO reports that the median weekly income for Irish citizens was €728.05 in 2023, while for non-Irish nationals, it was €641.36.
In 2023, Irish nationals made up 73.8 percent of total employment in Ireland, with non-Irish nationals constituting 26.2 percent, reports Breaking News.
Among non-Irish nationals, the largest representation came from Polish nationals (3.4 percent), United Kingdom nationals (2.8 percent), and Indian nationals (2.6 percent).
For Irish nationals, 25.7 percent of jobs were held by individuals aged between 15-24 and those aged 60 and over, while this figure was only 13 percent for non-Irish nationals.
In 2023, Indian nationals boasted the highest median weekly earnings at €883.74, whereas Ukrainian nationals had the lowest median earnings at €450.29, reports Breaking News.
Following Indian nationals, United Kingdom nationals (€745.78), Irish nationals (€728.05), and Italian nationals (€701.78) earned above the national median of €699.28.
Among Indian nationals, 30 percent were employed in the human health and social work sector, while 30 percent of Ukrainian nationals worked in the accommodation and food services sector.
Over the five years from 2018 to 2023, the employment figure for Irish nationals increased by 108,494, whereas the number of non-Irish nationals in employment grew by 190,146, reports Breaking News.
Darragh Turner, a statistician at the CSO, highlighted additional findings: “It’s evident that younger workers generally earn less and work fewer hours compared to their older counterparts. The presence of a larger proportion of younger workers significantly influences the overall median earnings for various nationalities. In 2023, 16 percent of employed Irish nationals within the 15-24 age bracket had median weekly earnings of €335, while 10 percent of non-Irish nationals earned €430,” reports Breaking News.
