Ivana Bacik appears to be the frontrunner to become the next leader of the Labour party

Relatively newly elected Labour party TD Ivana Bacik, who apologised for attending Katherine Zappone’s party at the Merrion Hotel last year, is said to be the frontrunner to become the new leader of the Labour party.

On Wednesday evening, Tipperary TD Alan Kelly resigned as leader of the Labour party. He appeared to start crying at one point during his resignation speech with some on social media saying that he should have taken it like a man and that were far worse things happening around the world than Kelly having to resign.

It’s understood that the Labour parliamentary party are favouring Ivana Bacik to become their new leader with some social media users claiming it’s because of Mary Lou McDonald being a female leader of Sinn Fein.
