Social media users are urging footballer James McClean to self-identify as Muslim, gay or black in order to force the English Football Association to take action over death threats and abuse he has received.
Anti-Catholic and Anti-Irish abuse as well as innumerable death threats have been directed at the Ireland international for his refusal to wear a poppy to commemorate British forces who have died in the Empire’s countless wars.
The Stoke winger’s wife has now gone public about the abuse they have received saying on Twitter:

‘‘there isn’t a day that goes by that either one of us don’t receive a message of some sort, whether it be a threat or else telling us to get the f*** out of England’’. She also said: “We’ve been spat on, shouted at, nights out have been ruined by people making remarks towards him’’.
“I even remember once someone threatened him saying there were taking a gun with them to a certain match and I can still remember watching that match in absolute fear on the TV.”
However, the English FA, which has pained itself, to show how much it supports “Black Lives Matter” and other “anti-racist” causes, has shown little to no interest in the abuse and threats directed at the Derry native and his family.
Now, in order to highlight the hypocrisy of the English FA, some social media users are suggesting that McClean identify as one of the privileged and protected minorities to force the football association as well as the authorities to take action.
