
Following what happened in Bondi beach on Sunday, gardai have been instructed to do more patrols around Jewish events in Ireland.
Gardaà have announced increased patrols at locations and events associated with Ireland’s Jewish community in response to the terrorist attack targeting a Hanukkah celebration at Sydney’s Bondi Beach Sunday morning.
Specialist liaison officers have been designated to maintain ongoing support for members of the Jewish community.
Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly is scheduled to speak with Chief Rabbi Yoni Wieder later today regarding these security measures.
Australian authorities have confirmed that at least 12 people were killed in the attack, which has been declared a terrorist incident.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has stated it is not aware of any Irish citizens directly affected by the incident.
In a statement, Minister for Foreign Affairs Helen McEntee said: “Our consulate in Sydney is continuing to monitor events and will remain in close contact with Irish citizens and the community locally”, reports RTE.
