US President Joe Biden had a cancerous skin lesion removed during a routine health checkup last month, the White House has announced.

All cancerous tissue has been removed and no further treatment is needed, Biden’s doctor said.

Mr Biden will continue to have skin checks as part of his ongoing medical care, the doctor added.

The 80-year-old president had a medical in February and the White House said he was healthy and “fit for duty”.

Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s doctor, wrote in a media statement Friday that the lesion was removed from Biden’s chest on February 16 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center outside of Washington DC.

“No further treatment is required,” he said, adding that the area has “healed nicely” since the biopsy was taken.

he note says the type of cancer found, basal cell carcinoma, usually does not spread or metastasise.
