Socialist TD Joe Higgins has said that popular protests against the introduction of water charges will continue and indeed intensify, despite claims by the Government that a new, improved set of charges will be announced soon.
Though the final cost per household is yet to be decided, it has been suggested that it will be below the €200 mark, though finer details are yet to emerge.
Mr. Higgins has also said that ‘people won’t be taken by this kind of political trickery’, and that the Government is ‘in a state of panic.’
Whatever the final decision on water charges may be, when Enda Kenny bowed to European pressure he put a gun to his own Government’s head, and he is about to pull the trigger in the name of Irish Water.
