Johnson and Johnson set to join vaccine race as EMA approval could be submitted next month

Ireland’s Covid-19 vaccine allocation could be given a significant boost in the coming weeks ahead as it is reported that Johnson and Johnson could apply for European Medicines Agency approval next month.

According to European Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides, the US pharmaceutical company could be in a position to submit an application for approval in February.

The news could potentially have a significant impact on the Covid-19 vaccine race as the company are developing a vaccine that requires just one dose instead of two.

Although the company has yet to submit its trial results, early indications have suggested that the vaccine is safe and effective as data has already been submitted to the New England Journal of Medicine.

If approved by the European Medicines Agency, there would be 200 milion doses available to EU member states.
