Judge orders arrest of Dublin mother who avoided prosecution over child missing school

A Dublin mother, whose child missed school on almost 90% of days in a year, has been ordered to be arrested by a judge, reports Breaking News.

Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, had summoned the woman to appear in Dublin District Court for breaking the Education (Welfare) Act.

She had repeatedly ignored official warnings about her child’s school attendance.

The case involves concerns over several of her children missing school. This was the fourth time the woman failed to show up in court, reports Breaking News.

The children’s father also did not attend court, but he contacted Tusla to inform them that he had a medical appointment.

The judge adjourned his case in his absence on medical grounds but ordered him to appear in court in October.

The Education (Welfare) Act mandates a minimum school-leaving age of 16 years or the completion of three years of post-primary education.

On the first conviction, the penalty is a fine of up to €1,000 and a possible one-month sentence per charge, reports Breaking News.
