Judge orders the arrest of thug for delaying train to Dublin by repeatedly pulling emergency cord

A judge has ordered a young man facing jail time to be arrested repeatedly for pulling the emergency cord on a train journey to Dublin.

Dublin District Court heard on Monday that Joseph Bland, of Oakglen, Stratford, Portlaoise, Co. Laois, a passenger on the evening of 25 June 2022, reports Breaking News.

The train inspector issued an unpaid fixed fine, which resulted in the defendant being fined instead on charges under Section 118 of the Railway Safety Act.

Legal prosecution can lead to 3,000 euros and a month’s imprisonment.

However, the defendant did not appear when the case resumed on Monday, instead the case continued in his absence, reports Breaking News.

Irish Rail Inspector Paul Quigley told Judge Anthony Halpin that the train was 35 minutes late entering Heuston Station because the emergency line had been pulled “multiple times”, forcing the driver to stop and “go back and reset it” each time, reports Breaking News.

He said the driver showed the defendant on the scene. The inspector asked the defendant to pull the cord but “he said he was just messing”, reports Breaking News.

The judge noted that the cord was for emergencies only.

Judge Halpin issued a warrant for his arrest, suspending sentence and adding: “I’m considering a custodial sentence,” reports Breaking News.
