A paedophile who faked his own suicide to avoid court has been sentenced to six years in prison after being discovered enjoying breakfast in a Tesco store, the Metro reports.
Paul Bairstow, 56, left a number of suicide notes to his lawyers and others on the day of his trial in Exeter, UK, for sexually abusing a seven year old girl. He subsequently disappeared in a woodland in Devon, leading police to believe he had taken his own life.
He was arrested three weeks later after he was spotted alive and well in a local supermarket. The court heard that Bairstow had lied to the victim’s mother, claiming to be a Royal Marine twelve years younger than his actual age.
Some may be surprised at the comparatively light six year sentence, considering the nature of his crime and his cowardly attempt to escape justice.
