Justice Minister confirms construction of new regional Garda headquarters in Galway will get underway in the next few days




The Minister for Justice has said Construction on a new regional Garda headquarters will begin in the next few days in Galway.

It is understood the new facility will cost in the region of €28 million and is widely expected that overall construction will take two years to complete. The news comes after similar construction projects have gotten underway in the past year at Dublin’s Kevin Street and at Wexford Garda Station.

Meanwhile the Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald said that “work was progressing satisfactorily on these projects and that they are on target for completion by 2017″. It is believed the new headquarters will have a 8,000 square metre main building with a 4,000 square metre basement. These will be made up of a public office; conference, training and custody facilities; a vehicle testing garage; firing range; and victim support facilities.
