Three kayakers got into difficulty at sea off the Howth coast when a fog bank quickly descended on their location, disorienting them.
Luckily for the three, they had a VHF radio and flares at the ready, and were able to call for help and mark their position.
A coast guard crew responded to the distress call and was able to locate them.
A spokesperson for the coast guard has praised the kayakers for their calm and rational actions, and highlighted the need to carry emergency equipment when venturing out, as conditions at sea can change very quickly.
