Keep your pets safe and warm – charity issues plea to pet owners after a dog dies during the current  cold snap

Animal owners are being urged to bring their pets inside and keep them warm during the current cold snap.

The warning comes after one pet owner reported to Cara Rescue Dogs that their dog had died overnight.

According to RSVP Live the animal rescue service recieved a phone call from an owner informing them of their dogs tragic death.

It is understood the dog was found lying at the back door of the house by a concerned neighbour.

In a post on their Facebook page Cara Rescue Dogs have urged the public not to take any chances by leaving their pet outside as the bitterly cold conditions will more than likely cause hypothermia, which can ultimately lead death if left untreated.

The rescue service also stated people should not leave their pet outside even though they have shelter such as dog houses.

In the post the charity say dog houses or boxes are not adequately equipped to deal with cold weather conditions as they are only designed to keep out rain and to provide shelter in moderately windy conditions.

They added owners should make sure their pets are kept safe and warm and out of the cold weather.
