In order to protect Britain and Europe, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated that he is prepared to send soldiers to Ukraine if necessary, reports RTE.
In the Daily Telegraph, Mr. Starmer stated that the UK was taking the lead in aiding Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, which “also means being ready and willing to contribute to security guarantees to Ukraine by putting our own troops on the ground if necessary.”
“I do not say that lightly,” Mr Starmer added, saying he felt “very deeply the responsibility that comes with potentially putting British servicemen and women in harm’s way, reports RTE.
“But any role in helping to guarantee Ukraine’s security is helping to guarantee the security of our continent, and the security of this country,” reports RTE.
In response to rising worries over US attempts to halt the crisis in Ukraine, Mr. Starmer announced he will attend a high-level conference later today in Paris.
“US support will remain critical and a US security guarantee is essential for a lasting peace, because only the US can deter Putin from attacking again,” Mr Starmer said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin, reports RTE.
Ahead of the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the chiefs of state of several European countries are anticipated to attend the gathering.
European nations worry that if the US pressures Ukraine into a poor agreement, Mr. Putin will declare victory and the continent would be left vulnerable to a more powerful Russia, reports RTE.
