The government have revealed they will give the Gardai the resources they need in order to make sure the streets are safer for people to walk at night.
The news comes as the Taoiseach Enda Kenny along with his fellow politicians met with community leaders from Dublin’s North-Inner City last night to discuss the recent rise in gangland crime over the past few months.
Mr Kenny said: “I did make the point of saying that we are paying €47 million a year for hotel rooms and bed and breakfasts for people who have no homes of their own.” “That kind of money- if you had a proper supply of housing being made available for this area and areas like this around the country- would make an immense difference to the opportunities for young people, the qualities of lives of people.
The Taoiseach added: “Working with the Minister of Justice we can shore the Gardai with the resources they need so that people can walk these streets without fear that their lives could be taken away.”
