Kenny is being urged to contact Martin as the Green Party and the Independents say a minority Government will not work

There has been yet another turn in the discussions to form a new government as the Green Party have said they will withdraw from talks with Fine Gael on forming a Government.

According to various sources within the party, leaders Eamon Ryan and Catherine Martin are believed to be committed from walking away from the table. The news comes after both parties held a series of talks over the past few days which have reportedly come to a stalemate.

The breakdown in talks comes after the Green Party revealed that they did not think a minority government would work given the fact that any small party would only be propping up Fine Gael and bowing to their demands. According to one Green Party TD the talk “Is going nowhere.’

“The buzz word was partnership. We wouldn’t be propping them up. It would need to be a partnership,” the TD said.

Meanwhile the acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny has been urged by Independents to “pick up the phone” and ring Fianna Fail leader Micheál Martin, as his party’s support would be needed. “Contact has to be made. If Fianna Fáil don’t support this, then these talks will have been pointless,” the TD added.
