Kenny: “London attacker was not under Garda surveillance”

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has confirmed that the attacker found with an Irish identity card and was involved Saturday night’s terrorist attack in London, was not under Garda surveillance.

Mr Kenny who was speaking in Chicago where he was on a state visit said that Garda officials had no information regarding the attacker despite him living in the Rathmines area in Dublin for almost two years.

Speaking to RTE Mr Kenny said: “There are a small number of people in Ireland who are being monitored and observed in respect of radicalisation and matters relevant to that.”

“In this case these facts are being checked but my understanding is that this individual was not a member of that small group.”
