The community in Kerry and beyond is mourning the heart-breaking loss of Lillie Gaynor, a vibrant and gifted young GAA player whose sudden passing has left a deep void among her family, friends, teammates, and all who knew her, reports The Mirror.

Lillie, a second-year student at Mary Immaculate College in Limerick, was on her teacher training placement in Tralee when she passed away peacefully and unexpectedly.

Just 20 years old, she was widely known for her kindness, energy, and sporting talent—representing her club with pride in both Gaelic football and camogie, reports The Mirror.

Her club, Abbeydorney LGFC, expressed their grief in a heartfelt tribute:

“Everyone at Abbeydorney LGFC is shocked and heartbroken… Lillie was a much-loved and valued member of our club… an integral member of teams all the way through… She was a proud member of the Junior winning squad in 2024,” reports The Mirror.

As a mark of respect, the club has cancelled all events for the foreseeable future.

The Cillard Camogie Club, with which Lillie was also involved, and Clanmaurice Medical Practice, where her mother Martina works, also paid moving tributes.

Clanmaurice wrote: “Young Lillie… was a vibrant, enthusiastic, brilliant ray of joy & love… A wonderful daughter, loving sister and loyal friend to all,” reports The Mirror.

Lillie was the eldest of four girls and leaves behind her parents Martina and Eamon, and sisters Aisling, Mollie, and Grace. The community has rallied around the family in this devastating time.

Tributes continue to pour in, reflecting the enormous impact Lillie had in her short but meaningful life—as a student teacher, teammate, daughter, sister, and friend, reports The Mirror.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
