The Labour party just clinched speaking rights in the Dáil after TD Willie Penrose emerged victorious in the Longford-Westmeath constituency, defeating Fine Gael TD James Bannon by just six votes.

Such result means that Labour achieves the minimum seven TDs to have speaking rights in the Dáil.

Mr. Penrose said that his party would step back into opposition and would not be part of any government.
