A large group of people have held a protest in Limerick City, to voice their disapproval at Irish Cement’s plans to open a waste burning plant at its Mungret site.

The protests which were held over the weekend come after the company recently announced plans to open a facility that will burn used tyres and solid waste items.

Although Irish Cement say their proposed waste burning plant will not cause any public health issues, protestors which mainly consists of people living in the area say they are fearful of the plants potentially dangerous emissions.

The protest comes after An Bord Pleanála recently granted permission to Irish Cement for them to carry out their €10m project.
