St Stephen’s Day is arguably one of the busiest nights of the year, and if the Taoiseach has anything to do with it – tonight and indeed every night could see longer opening hours for pubs and nightclubs.
Varadkar was speaking to reporters and said that “archaic” pub and nightclub hours need reforming to reflect competition in other European cities.
The aim is to stagger closing times in rural and urban areas along with trying to decrease the numbers of public order offences when everyone ends up on the streets at the same time.
