Late Duffy goal secures a point as Ireland draw 1-1 with Denmark in Euro 2020 qualifiers

Ireland have taken a point away from Denmark as their quest to qualify for Euro 2020 continues.

Shane Duffy’s late header could very prove crucial in the coming months as Mick McCarthy’s men secured a 1-1 draw in Copenhagen.

In a game that saw Denmark create more chances, Ireland fairly held their own as a strong performance saw them move on to seven points and remain unbeaten in the group.

The game as a whole didn’t get going until the second half and Denmark will look back having spurned a number of key chances.

The Danes who were held by Ireland in the first half took the lead through substitute Hojbjerg on the 76th minute as his glancing header made its way past Randolph.

Ireland who upped their game following the goal showed great character and rewarded when Duffy headed in Judge’s free-kick in the 85th minute.

Although both sides pushed in the final five minutes plus injury time, it ultimately ended in a draw with Ireland leaving the happier heading into Monday’s game with Gibraltar.
