According to latest figures it is understood that a staggering 80,000 students have registered to vote in the upcoming election.
The figures which was revealed by the Union of Students in Ireland, say that the number of students registering to vote in the last two years has increased dramatically and that Irish students would actively have a big input on who will be elected into the next government.
The president of USI Kevin Donoghue has said the significance of last year’s same-sex marriage referendum showed that young people would vote in large numbers. Mr Donoghue said: “Young people saw the change they could make in the marriage equality referendum.” “They will vote. We’ll be focused on it rock-solid for the next few months.”
