Leading cleric along with the Dublin Simon Community calls on the Government to make full use of tomorrow’s budget in order to tackle homeless crisis

The Dublin Simon Community and a well known Cleric has called on the Government to make full use of tomorrow’s Budget to solve the current homelessness crisis.

The call comes after another homeless man believed to be in his 30s tragically died in a doorway on Westmoreland Street over the weekend, the tragic passing marks the third such incident in under a year after two men passed away while sleeping rough near the Dáil. Leading Cleric Brother Kevin of the Capuchin Day Centre, claimed the Coalition had failed to address the severe issue within the last year and it is now time to take action.

Meanwhile Sam McGuinness of Dublin Simon Community said the government must prove themselves in tomorrow’s Budget in order to take the homelessness issue seriously. Mr McGuinness said: “Why do people have to suffer so much? (The response has been) too slow, too little, too late.” “Where is the housing piece of the Budget? Where is the housing piece of it?”
