Leading Fine Gael TD calls for the introduction of an emergency legislation that would stop landlords from evicting tenants who pay their rent in full

A leading Fine Gael TD has called for the immediate introduction of an emergency legislation that would actively see landlords being unable to evict tenants if they are paying their rent in full.

The latest call from Fergus O’Dowd comes as thousands of helpless tenants are being forced out of their homes without notice. Mr O’Dowd who was speaking about the current housing and homelessness crisis said landlords are deliberately abusing the property market to sell properties whilst they are currently occupied.

The Fine Gael TD told the Dail: “We cannot accept that families are being put out on the streets of our cities and our towns, by callous and cowardly landlords who are abusing a situation.

“They are exploiting the market, they are looking for people who will pay more and they are creating absolutely appalling conditions for families and I feel very strongly about this.”
