A leading Sinn Fein TD has called on Dublin City Council to restructure their funding policies in order to tackle current homelessness crisis rather than spending millions of Euro new infrastructure.
The news comes after the City Council had recently approved plans for a new pedestrian bridge crossing on the Liffey at the cost of €12m. The move has angered Sinn Féin TD Chris Andrews who says the money should be used in order to house the homeless.
Mr Andrews said: “I think any piece of infrastructure is very welcome and important, but I think at this stage it’s about priorities, and we see that there are over 100,000 children in homeless accommodation and I think we have to prioritise families over pieces of infrastructure like a bridge.”
