One of the UK’s leading Black Lives Matter activists, Sasha Johnson, is in intensive care after being shot in the head in an attack linked to rival criminal gangs.
The 27-year-old anti-police activist was shot while parting in London around 3AM Sunday morning in a suspected clash being rival criminal gangs and London’s Metropolitan Police Service have said that “there is nothing to suggest” the shooting was linked to her activism.
In a statemen, Johnson’s political party said
“It is with great sadness that we inform you that our own Sasha Johnson has been brutally attacked and sustained a gunshot wound to her head,” the Taking the Initiative Party (TTIP) said in a statement. “She is currently in intensive care and in a critical condition.”
Detectives from the London Met’s Specialist Crime Command (Trident) are investigating and looking to speak with anyone who was at the party in the Southwark.
“A dedicated team of detectives is working tirelessly to identify the person or persons responsible for this shooting,” said Detective Chief Inspector Jim Tele. He added that “they need the public’s help,” and urged witnesses to come forward if they had nformation about the incident.
