Leading union chief has said he is hopeful a deal can be reached in Dublin Bus dispute

With union members and management at Dublin Bus set enter further negotiations later today, a leading union member has said he hopes a deal can be struck soon.

Speaking after the latest round of talks yesterday, the NBRU’s general secretary Dermot O’Leary said a deal could soon be in sight, Mr O’Leary said: “We postponed industrial action on the basis that we would be confident going in there having listened to the WRC and their words to us yesterday that there was something that could be done here in order to resolve this dispute.”

“Look, it won’t be easy obviously, there’s a gap between us that’s significant, but if the company are coming in with the same positive frame of mind that they did with the WRC yesterday, in separate talks, the obviously you would be confident, or hopeful at the very least, that you would get a result here, you know?”

The news comes as talks are set to continue between now and Thursday in an effort to halt further strike action which is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
