The President of UCD Student Union, Katie Ascough has come under attack from some students at the University after her decision to remove information in the college magazine “Winging It” regarding abortion providers and acquiring abortion pills online.
President Ascough made the decision after consultation with UCD lawyers who advised her that providing this information was in breach of the 1995 Abortion Information Act.
This has fallen on deaf ears as a petition has been established by abortion activists in the University to impeach Ascough.
A petition has been signed by many students on campus, but many others claim Ascough was fully entitled to remove the illegal information and are standing with their S.U. President.
A Facebook page set up called “Do not impeach UCDSU President” claims the whole thing is just a bully-boy campaign from people who wanted Ascough out from word go.
