The boxing legend that is Katie Taylor has said she feels “honoured and humbled” the top awards at the Association of National Olympic Committees awards in Washington last night.
The Wicklow woman is a five-time AIBA World Elite lightweight champion.
Taylor was presented her award last night by Pat Hickey who is President of the Olympic Council Of Ireland and the European Olympic Council.
Speaking after the awards ceremony Katie said:
“I’m just so honoured and humbled to receive this award. I’d like to thank my family. Their support and encouragement throughout the years has been unfailing to me. I’d be nowhere without them.” she concluded.
Katie will now look towards Kazakhstan next May where she will bid to land her six successive AIBA World elite title, and in the process equal Cuban’s Felix Savon’s record.
