George Kennedy, the legendary actor who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in “Cool Hand Luke,” died on Sunday, it was confirmed last night. He was 91 years old.
A coroner spokesman in Idaho said that Kennedy died from a heart-condition, adding that he believed that the condition was long-term.
Kennedy’s film credits also included “The Dirty Dozen,” the “Airport” movies, a series of “Naked Gun” comedies and the disaster film “Earthquake,” among many others.
One of his best known roles to Irish audiences was Carter McKay, the big 6ft 4 rival to JR Ewing in Dallas.
He is survived by his three children.
