Leo Varadkar signs war register for Ukraine promising justice for the perpetrators of the attacks in Ukraine

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has signed a statement promising justice for the perpetrators of the attacks in Ukraine.

The Council of Europe’s 46-nation Russia-caused damage program in Ukraine prepares evidence for possible future prosecution of Russian leaders, laying the groundwork for reparations, reports RTE.

European countries are actively working to collect evidence of all Russian actions in Ukraine to ensure financial satisfaction in the future.

Last night Mr Varadkar met the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Síofra O’Leary, an Irish judge.

He will also have a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Iceland, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, reports RTE.

The Taoiseach will also attend two sessions to maintain European unity in Ukraine.

Several EU countries are backing Ukraine’s request for a special court to try Russian leaders for war crimes.

Initially established for three years, “It paves the way towards a future international comprehensive compensation mechanism for the victims of the Russian aggression,” a Council of Europe statement said, reports RTE.

Mr Varadkar said work is also underway to increase support for Ukraine in countries in Africa and Latin America.

“It’s important to give a message to people who have damages that we will not forget them, and that we will follow up afterwards,” Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said, reports RTE.

Ukraine is believed to be preparing an offensive on Russian posts in the east of its territory, which should be launched within a few weeks.

Mr Zelenskyy is keen to strengthen air defenses and Russia uses missiles and drones to cause widespread damage.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte agreed on the first day of the summit that they would create “international coalition to provide Ukraine with combat air capabilities, supporting with everything from training to procuring F-16 jets”, reports RTE.
