Lidl urgently recalls product that ‘may cause burning sensation in mouth’

A popular snack that “may cause a burning sensation in the mouth” has been the subject of an urgent recall by Lidl Ireland, reports The Mirror.

Certain batches of its 140g packets of Alpenfest Style Salted Mini Pretzels in milk chocolate and dark chocolate variations are recalled.

The batch code 8509 and the best before date of 28/02/2025 can be used to identify the impacted goods, reports The Mirror.

The snack, which was produced in Hungary, is being recalled as a precaution after it was reported that eating it might cause a burning feeling that is uncomfortable or painful.

In a safety notice issued today, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland said: “Lidl is recalling the above batch of its Alpenfest Style Salted Mini Pretzels Milk Chocolate and Alpenfest Style Salted Mini Pretzels Dark Chocolate as it may cause a burning sensation in the mouth when consumed,” reports The Mirror.

The impacted batch has already been taken off the market after the FSAI warned consumers not to consume it. To notify customers about the recall, notices will be posted at points of sale.
