Tributes are being paid to a Louth father-of-six who was tragically killed in a road collision in Cavan, as a fundraiser set up to ease the financial burden on his devastated family has received an overwhelming response from across the country, reports The Mirror.

David McBride, who was in his 40s, lost his life following a collision involving a car and a lorry in Co Cavan earlier this week, reports The Mirror.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the crash on the R192 at Corcloughan, Shercock, shortly after 7.30am on Monday morning.

David, who was driving the car, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. The lorry driver, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital for medical assessment, reports The Mirror.

Much-loved David will be fondly remembered by his devoted wife Paula, his six children Conor, Danny, Oisín, Felím, Culín and Dathí, along with his parents, siblings, extended family members, neighbours, wide circle of friends and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

David will repose in the Eternity Room at Quinn’s Funeral Homes in Dundalk on Thursday, February 5, from 3pm to 8pm. His funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 6, in St Oliver Plunkett Church, Blackrock, at 1pm, followed by a private cremation, reports The Mirror.

Since his passing, heartfelt tributes have been shared in David’s memory. Dundalk Engineering posted: “Sincere condolences to David’s wife, children and extended family on his sudden and tragic passing. He will be sadly missed by us all here. May he rest in peace”, reports The Mirror.

Another message read: “Deepest sympathy to David’s family, bless his wife and boys, so sad life is cruel. Fly high young man and protect from above to your beautiful family”, reports The Mirror.

A fundraising campaign has also been organised by David’s friends in an effort to support his family during this immensely difficult period.

“We are hoping to raise funds after the tragic accident that took the life of our dear friend, son, husband and father David,” a moving message on GoFundMe stated. David was husband to his beautiful wife Paula and daddy to his six amazing little boys who idolised him, as you can imagine the grief is overwhelming for all concerned. We hope to lessen the burden by attempting to cover David’s funeral costs with this GoFundMe, please donate whatever you can it will be appreciated”, reports The Mirror.

The fundraiser has already attracted significant generosity, with €24,998 raised towards its €28,000 target, reports The Mirror.
