Lismore residents up in arms after the Government stealthily moved in to transform a local landmark building into a direct provision center with zero consultation

Residents in Lismore, Co. Waterford, are up in arms after the Government stealthily moved in to transform a local landmark building into a direct provision center with zero consultation.

The Lismore House Hotel, a protected building, is now earmarked to house immigrants. About 300 people gathered to demonstrate against the move in recent days.

It is understood that migrants will start moving in today.

Direct provision centers have been deemed as ‘inhumane’ by Amnesty International, amongst other organizations.
