Locals attack and destroy Covid-19 testing centre in Ivory Coast as African nations struggle and fail to enforce lockdown measures

A Coronavirus testing centre being built in the capital of the Ivory Coast has been attacked and destroyed by protestors in a crowded residential area of Abidjan as angry locals feared it was too close to their homes.

Videos shared on social media showed the angry locals rioting and smashing the construction equipment and materials that were supposed to be used to build the testing facility.

The health ministry of the country later confirmed that the centre was only to be used as a testing centre rather than a treatment facility for the Chinese virus.

The West African nation, like most African countries, has had relatively few confirmed cases of Covid-19 but has imposed some lockdown measures as the lack of testing kits and facilities are likely hiding the true scale of the spread of the disease.

Despite the lockdown measures being imposed most African countries are finding it extremely difficult to enforce these virus containment efforts in their populace.
