
Locals say that they remain steadfast that President Donald Trump will once again visit his Co Clare property in 2026 during the Irish Open golf event.
Trump International Golf Club in Doonbeg has been confirmed as the venue for next year’s Amgen Irish Open, reports RTE.
The DP World Tour revealed its 2026–2027 schedule today, naming the County Clare links course — owned by U.S. President Donald Trump — as the host for the first time, with the tournament set to run from 10–13 September 2026.
The decision to select this venue is expected to add a notable political dimension to the event, especially in the context of Ireland–U.S. relations, reports RTE.
Rory McIlroy claimed victory at the most recent Irish Open last weekend in a dramatic playoff at the K Club.
McIlroy has played a key role in elevating the profile of the Irish Open on the DP World Tour. His involvement, past sponsorship through The Rory Foundation, and two wins have all contributed to its growing prestige, reports RTE.
This marks just the second time that County Clare has hosted the tournament, following Lahinch Golf Course’s turn in 2019.
Since acquiring the resort in February 2014, the Trump Organisation is said to have invested over €40 million, including the initial purchase cost, reports RTE.
Although the resort has earned numerous accolades as a golfing destination, it has not previously hosted a high-profile professional competition.
President Trump visited Doonbeg during his first term in 2019 and returned in 2023.
Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen was added to the 2025 DP World Tour schedule this year as the venue for the Nexo Championship, while a PGA Tour event is also planned for a Trump-owned course in Florida next season, reports RTE.
The PGA Tour has stated that the U.S. President’s “leadership” has supported ongoing discussions with the LIV Tour regarding their long-anticipated merger.
Eric Trump, executive vice president of The Trump Organisation and the U.S. President’s son, said they were honoured by the decision: “We are incredibly proud that Trump Ireland has been chosen to host the 2026 Amgen Irish Open,” reports RTE.
“This tournament is one of the most celebrated events in golf, and bringing it to Trump Ireland is a true testament to the standard of excellence that’s upheld at this property. The course is absolutely remarkable, and we are honoured to welcome the DP World Tour, its players, and fans from across the globe to experience the beauty and challenge of our championship links,” reports RTE.
