The guessing is over as RTÉ has officially announced that Slane Castle will serve as the dramatic setting for The Traitors Ireland, ahead of its premiere on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player later this year, reports RTE.

Filming has wrapped on the Irish adaptation of the globally popular series, which has captured viewers’ imaginations through acclaimed editions in the UK, the USA, and the Netherlands.

The show will be based at the iconic County Meath castle and will feature players from across Ireland, following a nationwide search for participants launched last year, reports RTE.

Each morning, contestants will gather for breakfast by the River Boyne, discovering day by day which of them has fallen victim to murder.

Slane Castle will host all the intrigue, challenges, and plot twists that make The Traitors one of the most addictive reality shows around, reports RTE.

Its grand walls will offer the ideal setting for scheming—whether it’s among loyal allies or whispered plots between Traitors behind closed doors.

Though many surprises remain under wraps, one thing is certain: Slane Castle, long part of Ireland’s rich history, is now the stage for intense banishments and covert murders as The Traitors Ireland takes the spotlight, reports RTE.

Siobhán McSweeney will helm the show as presenter, offering sharp commentary and overseeing the contestants as they navigate a tense game of loyalty and betrayal.

Gráinne McAleer, Head of Documentaries and Series at RTÉ, said, “We’re delighted to have been given access to one of the country’s most iconic castles by the Mount Charles family,” reports RTE.

“It was a real privilege to work in such a fantastic location. Slane has been an ideal production base – the castle is suitably imposing, and the Boyne Valley makes for a stunning backdrop. We can’t wait to bring it to RTÉ audiences this year,” reports RTE.

Alex Mount Charles of Slane Castle commented: “Slane Castle may be our home, but it was built for entertaining. Having The Traitors here is an enthralling evolution of this theme as the dramatic setting of the castle and its grounds now provide the backdrop for world class entertainment on the screen,” reports RTE.

“The whole team at Kite Entertainment have dug deep on this one,” reports RTE.

Darren Smith, MD of Kite Entertainment, said: “Our time in Slane Castle shooting The Traitors Ireland has been a real thrill, the perfect home for this show. We can’t wait for viewers to see all the high drama unfold as our cast banish and murder each.”

“In the meantime, the incredibly hard-working Traitors Ireland production team and cast are homeward bound for their first proper nights, murder free, sleep,” reports RTE.

The gripping psychological reality show brings together a group of strangers in a secluded castle to compete in a high-stakes game of manipulation, secrecy and trust, all aiming to win a prize of up to €50,000.

Hidden among them are the Traitors, whose mission is to eliminate other players each night without getting found out. The rest, known as the Faithfuls, must work to identify the Traitors before they’re targeted themselves, reports RTE.

Every day, the contestants take part in Missions to boost the prize fund. Those who make it to the end have a shot at claiming the full amount—unless a Traitor is still in the game, in which case they’ll walk away with it all.

The Traitors Ireland will debut later this year on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player, reports RTE.
