Lockdown part 4? Holohan warns that new restrictions may be required even though there’s a high vaccine uptake

Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer is not happy with how things are going and has sent an ominous letter to TDs in relation to Ireland’s future battle against covid.

Tony Holohan has said that people returning to their place of work must stay away if they have any covid symptoms. Likewise, they must self-isolate if they have any symptoms.

He said that social distancing, masks and self-isolation will remain for the Autumn and Winter.

Along with that, Holohan warned that regardless of a very high vaccine uptake in Ireland, further restrictions may be required as the R number isn’t under 1.

What that could mean would Ireland facing its fourth lockdown even though everyone has done what they can and have been asked to do.
