London police detain 21 climate change activists as disruptive protests take place across the globe in 60 cities

At least 21 climate change activists, taking part in the “Extinction Rebellion”, have been arrested in London.

The protests are part of a global movement demanding tougher action on carbon caused climate change from governments. London’s Metropolitan Police reported that the activists were detained on suspicion of conspiracy to cause a public nuisance.

Protestors in other cities, such as Berlin and Amsterdam, blocked roads and attempted to stifle business to maximise the disruptiveness of the protests. In Dublin, protestors have planned a week of demonstrations and have floated the idea of blocking roads in the city.

In all, disruptive protests are taking place this week in 60 cities around the world.
