Lows of -4C were recorded last night, and the thermometer is not expected to rise beyond 2 or 3C across most of Ireland today.
Snow showers are expected to move westward throughout the day, tending to die out towards evening.
It will remain very cold for the rest of the Bank Holiday weekend, with scattered wintry showers on Monday.
