Look, just be careful: Harris tells young Irish people to take safety precautions on summer travels

The Tánaiste has urged young people to “make the right memories” as they prepare for trips abroad this summer, reports Breaking News.

Simon Harris, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, has introduced a summer travel campaign aimed at promoting safety, awareness, and connectivity among young travellers.

So far this year, the Department has seen a 22% rise in cases requiring consular support, reports Breaking News.

This initiative follows recent advisories for J1 students, warning them against engaging in protests while in the United States.

Travellers have been reminded to follow all essential safety measures during their time overseas this summer, reports Breaking News.

Mr Harris emphasized the importance of being aware of “the local laws, customs and cultures of the countries you are visiting.”

“Keep your phone charged, share your locations on nights out, stay connected wth your friends and family, and please don’t forget your travel insurance,” he said on Newstalk, reports Breaking News.

“So whether you’re a J1 student, a backpacker, or going on your first post-exam holiday, remember to travel wise, look out for yourself and look out for any friends you travel with,” reports Breaking News.
