Former Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan is preparing to tie the knot in this week. Known for his leadership during the Covid-19 crisis, Dr Holohan shared that he and his partner Ciara Cronin are soon to wed, reports Dublin Live.

Their relationship began in 2023, more than two years after the passing of Dr Holohan’s wife, Emer, who died of blood cancer during the pandemic in 2021. Sharing the joyful update on Instagram, Dr Holohan posted a heartfelt photo with Ciara in Dun Laoghaire, writing: “One week to go to our big day -I’m so happy that Ciara and I will spend the rest of our lives together.”

The announcement was met with an outpouring of warm wishes. One commenter said: “How wonderful, congratulations to you both, wishing you many happy adventures together, good health and happiness,” reports Dublin Live.

Another added: “Wishing you both every happiness you both deserve this.” A third person commented: “Wonderful news congratulations to you both. Wishing you both lots of happiness.”

Father to Ronan and Clodagh, Dr Holohan has previously spoken about how naturally Ciara became part of their lives. In September 2023, he publicly acknowledged their relationship and shared how meeting her has brought a renewed sense of joy, according to the Irish Mirror, reports Dublin Live.

Reflecting on their bond, he shared: “She has been very well accepted not just into my own nuclear family if you like, the children, but also the wider families, both Emer’s and mine, it has been lovely,” reports Dublin Live.
