M1 murder-suicide: Gardaí in Co Louth officially confirm they are treating the discovery of woman’s body in a house in Rathmore, as murder

Gardai have officially confirmed that they are treating the death of a woman who’s body was found in a house in Co Louth on Monday afternoon as murder.

The woman identified as 68 year old Marie Quigley, was tragically found dead after suffering severe head injuries believed to have been caused by her husband at their family home in Rathmore near Hackballscross. Gardaí say they are officially treating Ms Quigley’s death as murder case after they found evidence of foul play. Gardaí say they believe that Mrs Quigley was murdered by husband, James Quigley, aged 69, after an altercation broke out in their home. The news of Mrs Quigley’s death came after her husband james died in a crash on the M1 motorway a mere two hours later, it is believed that Mr Quigley fully intended on ending his life after he drove the wrong way down a section of motorway, and collided with a truck and a car.

Meanwhile the couple’s four children have released a brief statement requesting privacy in order to grieve for their beloved parents.
