A major murder investigation has been launched following the disappearance of a 8-yr-old boy Kyran Durnin.
The young boy was reported missing to gardaà on 30 August, but had not been seen for some time before, gardai have confirmed.
They say that they were informed that he was last seen two days earlier, but now suspect that Kyran might not have been seen for some time before that.
Initially, they began missing persons inquiry but said they had carried out a large number of inquiries and now feel that they have been unable to find Kyran or identify any information on his current whereabouts. They stood down this appeal on Wednesday morning.
They’ve claimed that they have not discovered any evidence that Kyran is still alive and now suspect he may have died violently.
Gardaà say they now believe Kyran is missing presumed dead and that’s the reason why they have launched the murder investigation.
The investigation is being led by a Senior Investigation Officer in Drogheda and where an incident room has been established at Drogheda Garda Station.
Gardaà are appealing to anyone who has any information about Kyran’s disappearance to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041 9874200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 66-61-11 or any garda station.
No arrests have been made at this point.
Gardaà say Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, is aware of the case and that they’re working closely with the investigation and fully co-operating with the garda investigation.
Gardai said that Kyran was last seen on Wednesday 28 August 2024 at approximately 11pm.
